A PHOTOGRAPHIC REFLECTION ON FEMININE CONDITION BY RONI AHN
An old brown leather sofa. A bouffant white shirt. A stiff atmosphere. Roni Ahn’s photographs immediately propel us in the end of the 19th century. There is something “Little House on the Prairie” about the garments choice. Two girls are surrounded by artefacts and paintings in a London art collector’s house. Despite their angelic and innocent faces, the series of photographs called “Tearoom Antics” explores a darker aspect of femininity. “I wanted to keep a certain softness in terms of the girls’ movements but with a slightly darker twist, inciting a feeling of captivity and possession,” says Roni.
