THE SCENT OF MEMORIES – MATERIAL MAGAZINE’S FAVOURITE PERFUMES
Scent has a nostalgic capacity. For many of us, our most unforgettable memories have been marked by an equally unforgettable scent — it seems to cloak these experiences with an invisible, but intrinsic set of flavours and feelings.
Take perfumes, they are made up of a mix of undertones and they generate a certain emotion, feeling or memory when we spray them. With this very personal approach in mind, set designer Hella Keck and photographer Federico Radaelli arranged our favourite new scents against a natural backdrop to create a whole new set of memories that we can all draw from.
Bois Doré – VAN CLEEF & ARPELS, 75 ml
With its woody and rather bitter base, “Bois Doré” by Van Cleef & Arpels blends into an earthy environment. Its rich undertones create a natural warmth, making it perfect for the colder seasons.
Gabrielle – CHANEL, 100 ml
Named after the fashion house’s famed founder, Gabrielle Chanel, this scent is as captivating as you would imagine. Soft and light, the flower-based tones are distinct.
Eau de Velours – BOTTEGA VENETA, 50 ml
“Eau de Velours” finds its English translation as ‘velvet water’, and this scent is as smooth as its title suggests. Its top note draws from pink pepper and bergamot, leaving a sharp kick.
