SAINT LAURENT LAUNCHES COUTURE TRAINING PROGRAM

In order to perpetuate its savoir-faire, Parisian label Saint Laurent is to develop a couture training program this September.

Saint Laurent collaborates with two prestigious French fashion institutions, the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and the Institut Français de la Mode, to launch a six-month course focusing on couture craftsmanship.

The course application is now open to students who will both study at the two Parisian schools and intern at Saint Laurent ateliers before they introduce their final major projects to the house staff and the schools’ jury.

The company’s mission actually reflects a more global issue for luxury brands. It aims to protect the house’s traditional craftsmanship and couture values while evolving in increasingly globalized and mechanized societies.

Even though Saint Laurent wants to share its savoir-faire with the next generation of designers, the company wants the students to be aware of the issues the fashion industry has to tackle from now on. Indeed, the brand is to make sustainability its priority by reducing its environmental impact by 40% and promoting eco-friendly fabrics.
