THINGS THAT SHOULDN’T BE HAPPENING: KENDALL JENNER AND PEPSI APPROPRIATE BLM MOVEMENT
The latest Pepsi ad featuring model Kendall Jenner has us cringe. It basically says: all you need is a frizzling sweet beverage to solve all problems, especially such sensitive and complicated issues as politics. In the spot you can see the Kardashian clan member on the street where protestors invite her to join the crowd and march for freedom. A direct reference to the very famous picture of Black Live Matters protester Ieshia Evans who was arrested in Baton Rouge while marching for Ashton Sterling shooting death. Kendall Jenner, Pepsi, cultural appropriation and ignorant insensitivity: the internet isn’t happy about that to say the least…
However, Pepsi stands by its ad even after all the social media backlash. “This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that’s an important message to convey,” a Pepsi spokesperson said. Do they really believe in this simple solution for police brutality and the fight against racism?! So wrong on so many levels.
